ILCOS

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ILCOS is the " International Lamp Coding System " according to IEC 1231. The name goes back to the International Lamp Coding System .

With this labeling system, it is possible for lamps from different manufacturers to be comparable and interchangeable.
It competes with the German lamp designation system (LBS) of the Central Association of the Electrical and Electronics Industry (ZVEI) eV, which is mainly used in Europe.

Due to the further development of light sources beyond the incandescent lamp , an international labeling system was developed within the framework of the IEC for comparability and uniform labeling . It is based on the standard work of DIN and was in turn adopted in national standards, for example DIN EN 61231: 2014-06 or in the Australian standard system: "AS / NZS 61231: 2001 International lamp coding system (ILCOS)". The British standard is: "BS EN 61231: 2010 - International lamp coding system (ILCOS)" or for Austria: ÖVE / ÖNORM EN 61231 International lamp designation system (ILCOS) (IEC 61231: 2010). This European Standard exists in three official versions (German, English, French).

"The aim of the lamp labeling system is:

  • improve communication about the different types of lamps,
  • help in discussions about the interchangeability and compatibility of the products,
  • to enable a better relationship between international standards and manufacturer documents,
  • enable correct lamp replacement,
  • to be used as additional marking on the luminaire,
  • to replace national and regional designation systems. "

The structure of the designation part is as follows:

  • the first letter stands for the lamp category, V → vehicle lamps, F → fluorescent lamps, I → conventional incandescent lamps
  • the next letters stand for the details of the lamp shape, light color, construction features, possibly with a slash, further characteristics with two slashes.
  • hyphen
  • Numbers for indication of performance
  • hyphen
  • Numbers indicating the voltage
  • hyphen
  • Information on the lamp base
  • hyphen
  • Numbers for the dimensions of the lamp

On the other hand, there are three versions of the details. ILCOS L only consists of the letter part. A medium version ILCOS D made up of letters and numbers is so detailed that the user can also exchange lamps from different manufacturers. The complete information as ILCOS T contains the complete designation part and a standardization part, thus all the information required for use.

The information in the numerical section is based on specific requirements based on the lamp category. The voltage can be specified as a range with a code letter: A for 6 V, 12 V, 24 V, 49 V (i.e. low voltage) or C for 220 V, 240 V, 250 V. (based on IEC 357), if However, when it comes to interchangeability, the exact voltage values are required. This lamp designation system integrates other IEC publications in the given case.

In the abbreviation TL-D 58W / 840, TL-D denotes a lamp in the form of a rod, 58 W the nominal power, 8 the color rendering with R a  = (85) → 8, 40 the color temperature 4000 K and the light color cold white. The light color is given as the color temperature divided by 100 and rounded to whole numbers. The first digit denotes the range of the color rendering index Ra, the last two digits abbreviate the color temperature. If necessary, the color rendering index is rated as a number in front of it, with 7 standing for R a between 70 and 79. So 965 denotes a good color rendering (R a ≥90) with the light color 6500 K or 637 a bad color rendering (R a = 60-69) with the light color 3700 K.

An application for ILCOS D can look something like this

IAG / C // RS-40-220 / 230-E27-60
I = incandescent lamp, A = bulb diameter over 45 mm, G = ball lamp, / C = clear, // RS = shockproof, 40-220 / 230 = 40 watts, 220/230 volts, E27 = socket type, 60 = nominal diameter
