The IPE 06 Curucaca is a microlight aircraft produced by the Brazilian manufacturer Industria Paranaense de Estruturas (IPE).
History and construction
In January 1990 the IPE 06 Curucaca developed by IPE flew for the first time. The aircraft is a two-seater strutted shoulder wing and consists of a tubular metal frame covered with plastic fabric. In the cockpit, which can be entered through a door on the right, the pilot and passenger sit one behind the other. The aircraft has a conventional tail unit and a non-retractable tail wheel landing gear. It is powered by a modified VW engine (T2000) with 52.2 kW. 15 pieces were produced.
Based on the IPE 06 , IPE planned a tow plane called IPE 07 that should be lighter and more economical than the Paulistinha used by the aeroclubs . Using the structurally reinforced hull of the IPE 06 , it should be equipped with more powerful engines from 130 to 150 hp. For financial reasons, the project did not get beyond the initial planning.
An American investor provided funds at the beginning of the 2000s so that IPE could devote itself to aircraft construction again. The result was the IPE 06A , a significantly revised variant of the Curucaca with STOL properties . The new machine took off on its maiden flight in May 2003. Like its predecessor, the IPE 06A is a two-seater strutted high-decker. However, the wings are clad with aluminum and the fuselage is partially clad with composite materials. The machine is driven either by a Lycoming O-235-C with 85 kW or an O-360-A with 133 kW.
