history

Both founders were working as university lecturers in intellectual property at the Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute at Queen Mary, University of London , and were annoyed that their students had to study with outdated texts. They started the blog to have a resource for the latest developments in intellectual property law. In the course of time, Johanna Gibson, researcher and lawyer David Pearce also joined the team.

Although the blog was only founded to impart knowledge to students, its scope has now increased. The operators have significantly increased their awareness in the legal system, and they have also been able to generate income by sublicensing content and holding seminars on intellectual property law.

According to its own information, the blog had never been sued for copyright infringement until 2012, but it automatically removes protected content from the network if the owner so requests. Two threats of lawsuit for damage to reputation and one for disregard of the court were withdrawn.
