IQ 151

The home computer IQ 151 (series 2).

The IQ 151 is a home computer of the ZPA Nový Bor Combine from Czechoslovakia . The computer was built from 1985 to 1989, was the predecessor of the IQ 150 and was equipped with a processor from the Tesla MHB8080A series . This was an unlicensed copy of the Intel 8080 obtained through reverse engineering with a clock frequency of 2 MHz and a RAM memory of 32 KByte, which could be expanded to 64 KByte. However, the IQ 151 had to struggle with power supply problems in the early years: If more than three peripheral devices were connected, the computer crashed, which was because the diodes were too weak .

In 1987 a second, improved version of the IQ 151 was delivered, which solved the power problem and made some other improvements. The computer was now able to process color signals and the range of commands in the BASIC was expanded compared to 1985. The later series can be recognized by the fact that the letter "G" is on the keyboard below the cursor keys.

The computer had an expressly modular approach, which meant that it was very easy to expand, so the IQ 151 could accommodate up to four plug-in modules at the same time, so that you could switch between them.

The production of the home computer was stopped after the end of communism.
