IREON (Internet portal)
IREON (International RElations and area studies ONline) is an Internet specialist portal for international relations and area studies for direct, free research in relevant literature databases and library catalogs. These contain bibliographic data as well as factual information on foreign and security policy, international politics and economics, regional and country-related topics, foreign cultural policy as well as climate, environment and energy.
The portal is aimed at scientists and others interested in questions of international relations or area studies such as B. journalists or decision-makers in politics, business and administration. The provider of the IREON portal is the FIV - Fachinformationsverbund Internationale Relations und Länderkunde , an association of ten German research institutions under the leadership of the Science and Politics Foundation .
Content
In IREON you can currently search in the World Affairs Online: (WAO). The WAO is a bibliographic database and contains more than 900,000 references. The focus of the specialist database is on journal and book articles, on scientific electronic publications and electronic or printed gray literature. Another focus is the collection of international agreements and contracts with a link to the full text.
A special feature of IREON is the integration of the European Thesaurus on International Relations and Area Studies as a reference work for technical terminology and to support research in IREON.
Functions
To facilitate the search, u. a. searches can only be made for documents available in full text, for documents in a certain language or for selected document types (e.g. only essays). For each hit, specific information on availability is displayed, ranging from a direct link to the electronic full text (if available) via a link to the Electronic Journal Library (EZB) to an availability search in the Karlsruhe virtual catalog .
The portal is available in a German and an English version.
