The IUCAA Girawali Observatory is an observatory of the Inter-University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), on a small hill at an altitude of 1000 m near the village of Girawali about 80 km from Pune , India .

Building of the 2 m reflector telescope of the IUCAA Girawali Observatory

The main instrument is a reflecting telescope with a 2 m aperture , which was put into operation in 2006. The IUCAA Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera (IFOSC) with a back-illuminated CCD sensor is connected to its Cassegrain focus , which is suitable for a spectral range from 350 to 850 nm and has a resolution of 2k × 2k pixels . Another CCD camera with a resolution of 1340 × 1300 pixels is attached to one of four Nasmyth ports .
