I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For is a song by the Irish rock band U2 . It is the second track from their 1987 album The Joshua Tree and was also released as the album's second single in May 1987. The song was a hit and reached number one on many different hit lists around the world, such as B. in the US Billboard Hot 100 .

The song came from a demo recording by the band, in which drummer Larry Mullen junior had recorded an unusual drum pattern. Like many tracks on The Joshua Tree album , the music arose out of the band's interest in American music. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For contains influences from gospel music.

I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For was nominated twice for the 30th Grammy Awards in 1988 (Record of the Year and Song of the Year). It is one of the most famous pieces by the band and is regularly played at U2 concerts.
