Zouafques ( Dutch Zwaveke , Picard Zuave ) is a French municipality with 609 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement Saint-Omer and the municipality association Pays de Saint-Omer .
geography
Zouafques is located between Calais and Saint-Omer , about 20 kilometers southeast of the English Channel coast . The neighboring communities are Zutkerque in the northwest and north, Recques-sur-Hem in the northeast, Nordausques in the east and Tournehem-sur-la-Hem in the south. The Hem flows through the 393 hectare municipal area in the Caps et Marais d'Opale Regional Nature Park . The predominantly flat community area is only a few meters above sea level. An exception is a wooded chain of hills ( Bois du Parc ), which comes from the southwest almost as far as the church. This is the highest point in the community at 72 m.

There are seven farms in the municipality of Zouafques (cereal cultivation, cattle breeding, dairy farming).
In the municipality of Zouafques, the A26 autoroute ( Calais - Reims ) is crossed by the D 943 (Calais - Saint-Omer ) road. Both lines are crossed under the LGV Nord ( Paris - Eurotunnel ) in Zouafques . The nearest train station is in the small town of Audruicq, seven kilometers away, on the railway line from Lille to Calais ( Ligne de Lille aux Fontinettes ).
