Blendecques ( Dutch : Blendeke ) is a French municipality with 5002 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais and in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Omer and is part of the canton of Longuenesse .

Blendecques lies on the river Aa . The municipality is part of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Regional Nature Park .

Blendecques is surrounded by the neighboring communities Longuenesse in the north and north-west, Arques in the north-east and east, Campagne-lès-Wardrecques in the east, Heuringhem in the south-east, Helfaut in the south-west and Wizernes in the west.

history

On the Aa, the Cistercians founded the Sainte-Colombe Abbey in 1186 after Ghislon d'Aire wanted to found a monastery here in 1182.
