Lougher grew up as the youngest child of four siblings. His father and older brother rode a motorcycle, which the boy loved. He began racing in the mid-1980s and was most successful in the smaller displacement classes such as the 125cc . He competed at the TT from 1990 to 2009 and achieved 29 podium places. In this race he repeatedly set various lap records, such as the one in 1999 in the 125 cc with an average speed of 172.89 km / h. On the all-time best list (as of 2015) he ranks 6th with 10 victories at the TT and 2nd with 18 victories at the Ulster GP . Only Joey Dunlop was able to achieve more victories in Ulster. In the Southern 100 , no rider has been able to achieve more victories than Lougher: he was number one there 32 times. After retiring from professional sport, he took part in classic car races as a driver . At these events - often referred to as Classics - he continues to enjoy success. As team boss of ILR Kawasaki he remains true to the displacement class in which he knows best. He competes in the British Motostar Championship with drivers Dan Hegerty , Vasco van der Valk and Joe Thomas . This is a junior racing series with 125 cm³ in the context of the British Superbike Championship .
