Ibn Sayyad

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ibn Sayyad (Arabic: الصف بن الصياد) is mentioned in a hadith by Muslims as a doubters of the prophethood of Muhammad . Mohammed suspects that Ibn Sayyad could be a Dajal , a false messiah who cannot be killed. According to another passage it is said that Ibn Sayyad himself claimed he was a prophet when he was on the threshold of youth, and so it was initially assumed that he was the false messiah, as reported in the hadith. Mohammed said, "Don't you bear testimony that I am the Messenger of Allah?" Ibn Sayyad said, "No, but you should testify that I am the Messenger of Allah." Thereupon Muhammad's companion ʿUmar ibn al-Chattāb said: "The Messenger of Allah shall allow me to kill him." Then Mohammed said, "If he is that person [the Dajjal] that is in your head, you will not be able to kill him, and if he is not then it will be of no use to kill him".
