Identity check (chemistry)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The identity verification is a process of analytical chemistry , can be identified with the substances.

In the specialist literature it is recommended to first check the identity of two substances (limited to substances in the solid aggregate state ) using the simple and fast method of measuring the mixed melting point before resorting to spectroscopic methods. The identity check can e.g. B. using infrared spectroscopy by comparing the fingerprint range in the IR spectrum of a known substance with the spectrum of an unknown substance.

Identity check of the starting materials for the synthesis of medicinal substances

It is common practice, and in some cases required by public regulations, to subject the starting materials for the synthesis of medicinal substances to an identity check before they are used. This is a contribution to quality assurance in the overall process of drug synthesis.
