Idioblast (geology)

Idioblasts ( Greek ἴδιος "own", βλάστος blastos "germ") are granular minerals in metamorphic rock that have their own crystalline shape. The idioblastic (crystal loblastic) structure is the structure characteristic of common metamorphic rocks.

Examples of idioblasts include garnet , tourmaline , staurolite, and kyanite .
