History and etymology
The Tillamook Burn , a series of forest fires that destroyed a total of 1,440 km² of forest , occurred in a large forest area between 1933 and 1951 . From 1949 a reforestation project was carried out, for which the place was created in the middle of the forest area. This included a lumberjack camp to repair the damage. Because the camp was so remote, it was said that only an idiot would work there. This is how the name Idiotville came about .
In 1973 the work was finished. Since then, the wooded area has been referred to as the Tillamook State Forest .
The creek Idiot Creek was named after the community and in 1977 to the list of the United States Board on Geographic Names added.
