Idiriya

Idiriya (also Jdiriya ) is a place in the north of the Western Sahara, which is largely occupied by Morocco .

The location in the province of Es Semara was the scene of armed clashes between the Moroccan military and units of the POLISARIO during the military phase of the Western Sahara conflict .

The Spanish troops stationed here during the Spanish colonial period withdrew from the area in October 1975 due to the impending Moroccan Green March . On October 31, 1975, Moroccan troops advanced across the border to Idiriya, among other places, and there was fighting with the Western Saharan liberation movement POLISARIO. However, the Moroccan military gained the upper hand.
