The Iglesia San Nicolás de Moruy is a Roman Catholic church on the Paraguaná peninsula in Venezuela . It is located at the foot of Cerro Santa Ana , which at 830 meters is the highest point on the peninsula.

history

Moruy Church is one of the typical examples of religious architecture in Venezuela and one of the best preserved churches from the colonial era. The church was built in the 18th century and belongs to the Archdiocese of Caracas . The church was dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra . There is a solid brass plaque on the church with a reference to the year 1795. However, there is no certainty about the exact date of the start of construction. Due to the seismic activity over the past 300 years, the building has suffered a lot. The outer walls had to be supported several times. In 1970 the building underwent a complete renovation, the original condition was retained.
