Church of San Francisco de Asís (Montevideo)
The Iglesia de San Francisco de Asís is a building in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo .
The Catholic church building, designed in 1865 and consecrated in 1870, is located in Ciudad Vieja on Calle Cerrito , corner of Solís . Victor Rabú , who won the competition held a year earlier to build the church, was responsible for the building project . I. Pedrálbez directed the construction himself . In 1895 the church tower was completed. In 2007 restoration work took place under the direction of the architects F. Collet and D. Neri .
The 16 meter high, three-storey building has a floor area of 1699 m² and is architecturally assigned to historical eclecticism ; the influence of St-Sernin de Toulouse is palpable.
Since 1975 the church has been classified as a Monumento Histórico Nacional .
