Ignace Ardieux

Ignace Ardieux (* around 1650 in Freiburg / Switzerland ; † February 20, 1684 in Ayutthaya ) was a Swiss missionary in Siam .

Ardieux came as a subdeacon in the Catholic seminary of the Missions Étrangères in Freiburg and became one of five seminarians who could enjoy the scholarship donated by Pierre de Pons on January 23, 1677. On December 22nd, 1678, he left Freiburg for Siam and was ordained as a priest in Ayutthaya in 1681 or 1682. After his priestly ordination, he went on a trip to Phitsanulok , some 300 km north of Ayutthaya .

Laneau wrote of him as a man of great impartiality who was a saint such as one only meets once in a hundred years.
