Nossa Senhora da Ajuda in Espinho

Nossa Senhora da Ajuda is the main Catholic church in the Portuguese district town of Espinho . It was built in the city center in 1920 and dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Ajuda . Its design is based on the neo-Romanesque style from the end of the 19th century.

The location of the church is the field of the checkered floor plan of the city, which is formed by the streets Rua 27 , Rua 20 , Rua 29 and Rua 18 . The church tower built centrally above the main portal, crowned by a statue of Mary, defines the cityscape.

The church furnishings include works by the sculptor António Texeira Lopes and paintings by Joaquim Lopes . The glass work comes from the Espinho born Silverio Vaz . The tiles ( azulejos ) in the choir were created by Inácio de Sá .
