Ikwezi

Ikwezi was a municipality ( Local Municipality ) in the Sarah Baartman District (formerly Cacadu), Eastern Cape Province in South Africa . 10,537 inhabitants lived in an area of ​​4453 km² (as of 2011). The seat of the municipal administration was Jansenville .

Ikwezi is an isiXhosa term for “morning star”, it means that “dawn breaks (the sun rises)”. The name was chosen to mark the beginning of a new, better era.

In 2016 the parish became part of the newly formed Dr Beyers Naudé parish .
