Jansenville is a small town in Dr Beyers Naudé parish , Sarah Baartman District , Eastern Cape Province in South Africa . It is 80 kilometers south of Graaff-Reinet , north of the Zuurberg Mountains . The city is also the seat of the local government. In 2011 it had 1,134 inhabitants.
Like many other places in the Karoo , the city was founded in 1854 around a Dutch Reformed church. It was named after the last Dutch governor of the Cape Colony , Jan Willem Janssens.

The local vegetation typical of the Karoo is determined by bushes and succulent plants. A native spurge ( Euphorbia jansenvillensis ) is named after the place.
