Il Parco di Kurt Laurenz Metzler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Parco di Kurt Laurenz Metzler is a permanent open-air exhibition of contemporary works of art in Iesa , a district of Monticiano , 25 kilometers south of Siena .

description

The park was established in 1995 and has been open to the public ever since. The three hectares of land that surround Kurt Laurenz Metzler's house and studio , near the Terme di Petriolo , contain the work of the Swiss artist. The park covers its artistic production from 1963 until today. This is largely composed of hominids from different materials (iron, marble, aluminum, bronze, painted resins). Metzler creates urban scenes, portrays neurotics, newspaper readers, etc. A collection of 60 sculptures is currently on display in the park.

As Enrico Crispolti writes, Metzler creates a “ street theater ”; his work is an emblematic image of the people of our day, but these people find an “innate ability to adapt” in the park and other environments. The park is currently negotiating an expansion of the exhibition area and the possibility of building a cultural center for the visual arts. Courses, master classes, concerts and other cultural events are also offered.

Although Metzler had discussed the idea several times with artist friends such as Niki de Saint Phalle and later with Daniel Spoerri , since they also have sculpture parks, the project was first brought to life by Claudia P. Metzler, his wife, together with Enrico Crispolti and Anna Mazzanti .
