The Ilha do Sul (Eng. Southern Island ) is the southernmost and easternmost island of the Brazilian group of islands Martim Vaz in the southern Atlantic Ocean , 1125 km off the coast.

It is located about 1.83 km south of Ilha Martim Vaz , the main island of the group, and about 47 km east of the much larger island Trindade . Since the Ilha do Sul is about one meter further east than the Ilha Martim Vaz, it has the easternmost point of the Martim Vaz archipelago, the Trindade and Martim Vaz group, at 20 ° 29 ′ 50 ″  S , 28 ° 50 ′ 52 ″  W , the city of Vitória and the state of Espírito Santo , to which it belongs, as well as the country of Brazil and the entire continent of South America . In North America, only Greenland extends further east. This means that the island is more than 200 km further east than the westernmost point of the Azores, which belongs to Europe, and 275 km west of the westernmost island in Cape Verde in Africa.

The Ilha do Sul consists of a single rock in the sea, has an area of 3.34 hectares and a height of 122 m. It is 295 m wide and 281 m long. The highest part of the island is approximately round, but from the north side a ridge only 82 to 13 m narrow leads first to the east and then further and further south, so that the arm is 53 m south and 147 m east of the main part of the island. The ridge is occasionally washed over, so that a second island is formed. However, this is temporary and therefore not named.
