Ilya Yaroslavich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ilya Yaroslavich (Russian Илья́ Яросла́вич ) (* before 1020; † before 1034) was prince of Novgorod (before 1034). He was the oldest known son of Yaroslav the Wise .

Life

Almost nothing is known about Ilya. Only the First Novgorod Chronicle (more recent edition) mentioned him:

“And Yaroslav a son Ilya was born, and he put him in Novgorod, and he died. And then [...] he put his son Vladimir in Novgorod. "

Vladimir was the first son of Yaroslav from his marriage to Ingegerd . So Ilya must have been a son from Yaroslav's previous marriage.

His year of birth would have been before 1020, his rule in Novgorod before 1034.

When Ilya died is unknown.

Remarks

  1. The name of Yaroslav's first wife is not known. In 1018 she was abducted to Poland by Bolesław Chrobry , along with a son and nine sisters of Jaroslaw. It is not known whether the boy was Ilya, nor is the further fate of the abducted persons.
