The State Route begins on US Highway 67 near Littleton and ends after 19 miles in Augusta on Illinois State Route 61 . Illinois State Route 99 begins west of Brooklyn . Shortly before Augusta, the IL 101 runs through Weinberg-King State Park .

There have been no changes in the course since the street opened in 1924.
