The Illinois Crater (also Ilyinets ; Ukrainian Іллінецький кратер / Illinezkyj Krater ) is a buried impact crater in the east of the Ukrainian Vinnytsia Oblast .

The Illinois crater, which was discovered in 1851 by the professor of the Kiev University Konstantin Matwejewitsch Feofilaktow (1818–1901) in the search for mineral deposits, is located about 10 km west of the eponymous city Illinois .

The crater with a diameter of 8.5 km was created by the impact of a 40 million ton meteorite with a diameter of about 300 m during the Upper Devonian about 378 ± 5 million years ago.

In the course of further research in 1975 the world's largest agate was found here.
