Ilze Juhansone
Ilze Juhansone is a Latvian EU official . She has been Director General in the General Secretariat of the European Commission since January 14, 2020 .
Life
Ilze Juhansone studied Latvian Philology at the University of Riga from 1989 to 1994 and also studied law there with a master's degree in 2005. From 1992 to 1998, she ran a vocational school . She then worked at the Citizenship and Migration Affairs Office in Riga until 2003. She then moved to Brussels as a consultant at the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the European Union (EU) until 2004 . Until 2008 she was Deputy State Secretary in the Latvian Ministry of Justice. For three years she was responsible for EU affairs in the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2011 to 2015 she represented Latvia as ambassador and permanent representative to the EU.
In November 2015, she joined the European Commission, initially as Deputy Secretary General. Since August 2019 she has already been in office as the Executive Secretary General.
