The Berlaymont building in Brussels is the seat of the General Secretariat of the European Commission

The General Secretariat of the European Commission ( SG for English, Secretariat-General or French Secrétariat général ), based in the Berlaymont building in Brussels (Belgium), is the central administrative unit of the European Commission . It has the rank of Directorate-General and is directly attached to the President of the Commission . Ilze Juhansone has been General Secretary since 2020 .

tasks

The main task of the General Secretariat is to control decision-making processes within the European Commission. It elaborates concepts that span the various policy areas and proposes the strategic priorities of the Commission. In particular, it ensures that the Commission's policy remains coherent across the various Directorates-General and Services.

The General Secretariat also operates the Commission's registration system to ensure that everything runs smoothly. It is also the central interface in the Commission's relations with other institutions.
