from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Im Hölken is protected under the entry " Dolinengelände Im Hölken " as a nature reserve in the east of the city of Wuppertal , in the district of Langerfeld-Beyenburg . The wooded area is named after the street of the same name. A second street in the industrial area Nachbarebreck called Hölker Feld , which goes back to the same field name or estate name, is nearby.

It was designated as a nature reserve for the first time on January 29, 1938 and its validity was renewed on March 29, 2005 as part of the Wuppertal-North landscape plan.

topology

The nature reserve consists of three neighboring areas and together covers eight hectares. The northernmost area, together with the second smaller area, has an almost square outline. The two areas are interrupted by the Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen-Hattingen railway line, which is no longer in use, from a north-north-westerly direction to the south .

Adjacent to the southwestern tip is the third area of the nature reserve, this area is crossed by the street Im Hölken from the west to the southeast corner of the area.

etymology

The etymological origin of the old place name Im Hölken comes from the estate designation "tom Holkyne", which is mentioned in 1401 in a loan from Count von der Recke-Volmestein, when Goebel von Koethusen owned the estate (Hof Hölken) "thon Holekyne" from the Junker Johann von Volmarstein “ Received as a fief . The name appears in the address book for the first time in 1923, an exact naming date is not known. There are two theories about the origin of the name: Hölken, originated from “Höltken” = little wood (small forest), or the first component of the name comes from “hollow”, which means a hollow or hollow in the area.

Nature reserve

The nature reserve was set up by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for the preservation and development of the biotope as a refuge and regeneration area for animal and plant species bound to beech forests as well as the preservation and development of the structural wealth in the forest from old wood with a high stock of dead wood and rich herbaceous and shrub layer. The protection also extends to the special nature of the area with its sinkholes in the mass limestone and is therefore worth preserving for geological and geological reasons.

The area is also part of the Geopath , a geology educational trail or hiking trail .
