In-SHUCK-ch

With In-shuck-ch Nation North American are Indians , made up, in a First Nations Government at the lower Lillooet River south of Pemberton in the Canadian province of British Columbia have joined forces. The more than 900 (officially recognized) members belong to the St'at'imc language group from the Salish language family , culturally they belong to the inland Salish . You have separated from the Lillooet Tribal Council and are forming your own representation vis-à-vis the Canadian government.

The Lower Stl'atl'imx Tribal Council includes three bands , as the separately settling tribes are called in Canada. These are the Samahquam First Nation (shah-MAH-kwum) with around 280 recognized members (2006), the Skatin Nations with 381 (August 2009) and the Douglas First Nation with 235 members. Originally the N'Quatqua First Nation (303 recognized members), who live around D'Arcy, left with the other three bands , but they now have their own administration.

At the beginning of July 2007, the In-SHUCK-ch nation signed a land use agreement with the government, which is intended to promote economic development, but at the same time take into account ecologically and culturally sensitive areas of the area.

Chiefs Darryl Peters of the Douglas First Nation , Keith Smith of the Samahquam Nation and Patrick Williams of the Skatin Nations have signed the contract. Specifically, it was decided to set up a new protected area on upper Rogers Creek , which is adjacent to Stein Valley Nlaka'pamux Heritage Park , plus another 30 hectare area on lower Douglas Creek , and finally a so-called wildland zone on upper Douglas Creek, where Logging is forbidden, but natural resources are sought and tourism is to be expanded. In addition, 11 cultural sites are recognized, and in future they should only be managed in consultation with the First Nations.

In total, the In-SHUCK-ch will receive an area of ​​14,979 hectares (almost 150 km²) and around 21 million dollars .
