In Tua Nua were a rock group from Ireland who combined rock music with traditional Irish instruments. They were mostly known in their homeland in the mid to late 1980s. The name is Celtic and means The New Tribe .
history
In Tua Nua was founded in 1982 by Leslie Dowdall ( vocals ), Jack Dublin ( bass ), Ivan O'Shea ( guitar ), Martin Clancey (guitar, keyboard ), Paul Byrne ( drums ), Steve Wickham (electric violin ) and Vinny Kilduff ( Uilleann Pipes ). A year later they released their first single Coming Thru on U2's label Mother . Shortly thereafter, the band switched to Island Records . In 1985 Kilduff and Wickham left the band, the latter switched to The Waterboys . They have been replaced by Aingeala de Burca (violin) and Brian O'Briain (uilleann pipes and saxophone ).
In 1987, In Tua Nua, now under contract with Virgin Records , released her album Vaudeville with the single Seven Into The Sea . In the same year they supported U2 on their The Joshua Tree Tour with a total of 5 appearances . The album The Long Acre followed in 1988, but it was only commercially able to build on the success of Vaudeville.
Shortly after finishing the recording of their third album When Night Came Down On Sunset , the band broke up in September 1989 in an argument. The album has only been available on iTunes since 2007.
