history

In 1847, William MacKinnon and Robert MacKenzie, together with MacAllister Hall, founded the MacKinnon MacKenzie Company ( MMC ) with headquarters in Calcutta . In 1862 the company was listed on the London Stock Exchange under the name British India Steam Navigation Company . In the following decades, various companies were acquired and from a series of bought-in testing and certification company , the Inchcape Testing Services formed.

In the 1990s, the business increasingly focused on the import and trade of motor vehicles . The Japanese company Toyota became an important trading partner . The Inchcape Testing Services division was acquired by Charterhouse Development Capital in 1996 and renamed Intertek Testing Services .
