Indian Institute of Islamic Studies

The Indian Institute of Islamic Studies ( IIIS ) is an institute for Islamic studies in the Indian capital New Delhi . It has an important library .

history

It was founded in 1963 by prominent Muslim leaders, including Hakeem Abdul Hameed , the founder of what would later become Jamia Hamdard (Hamdard University). The institute's mission is to preserve Islamic tradition and culture in India . In addition, comparative studies and research on Islam are to be funded. The institute houses many collections on Islam , mostly in Persian and Arabic . It publishes a quarterly journal called Studies in Islam . The Islamic and Comparative Law Quarterly appears in its Department of Islamic and Comparative Law . Another department is the Department of Comparative Religion.

The institute also helped fund the India Islamic Cultural Center (IICC) in 1984.
