Customizability

Customizability is in terms of usability , a feature of a dialogue when there the user allows the interaction with the system (eg., Web page or software product) to his knowledge and to adapt its facilities.

The customizability is a dialogue principle specified in DIN EN ISO 9241-110 , which should be observed when designing usable systems.

Examples

The following positive examples are intended to serve as an illustration:

  • In numerous browsers and operating systems, the user can structure the menu in such a way that it best supports him personally in his goals.
  • Seniors can set the information display of a system in such a way that only the most important information is displayed and the user is supported by increased font size and color contrasts.
  • Users can hide certain information (seldom or not required for them) in a system.
