The Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS) ( Swahili Chuo Kikuu Katoliki cha Afya na Sayansi ) is a private Roman Catholic university in Bugando- Mwanza ( Tanzania ).

history

In 1994, the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) decided to establish an independent Bugando University College of Health Sciences at the St. Augustine University of Tanzania , which was later renamed the Weill Bugando University College of Health Sciences . In 2003 the college finally became independent, making it the second Catholic university in Tanzania. The university is located on the grounds of the Bugando Medical Center (BMC) , which has an academic teaching hospital with 870 beds.

The following training and study courses are currently offered:

  • University undergraduate courses :
    • 5-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) course (comparable to studying medicine ).
    • 4-year Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) course (comparable to the pharmacy course ).
    • 2-, 3- or 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education (B.Sc.NED) .
    • 3-year Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences course (comparable to training as a medical-scientific laboratory assistant).
    • 3- or 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc.N) course (comparable to training as a midwife ).
