Inductive soldering

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Inductive soldering is a special type of connection technology . The electromagnetic induction effect is used to generate heat in order to melt a material that connects several workpieces when cooled again.

Basic physical principle

An inductor located in the alternating current circuit, which can be simply imagined as a coil , is attached in such a way that it encloses the components. The inductor is supposed to heat only one soldering point by means of a clever design. The time-changing electrical current flow through the inductor generates a time-changing magnetic field in the coil of the inductor, which primarily induces a voltage in the component. This in turn generates the heat necessary for soldering through an electrical eddy current in the electrically conductive components, since the electrons rub against the atomic bodies due to the resistance when the current flows .

Used when soldering metals

Inductive soldering is mainly used when there is poor accessibility and high reproducibility is required. Inductive soldering is very easy to automate and is therefore often used for series production.

Induction brazing of hard metals is used in the production of cutting tools . The inductive heating for soldering hard metals, PCD or PCBN materials has the advantage that the carrier (base body) is heated evenly from all sides. This means that there are no mechanical tensions between the elements to be connected, which reduces the risk of cracks forming. This represents a significant improvement in the quality of the solder joint.

Use in the field of electronics production

For the soldering of electrical assemblies, this process is usually not suitable or only suitable to a limited extent. The alternating magnetic field induces electrical voltages on the assembly. In unfavorable cases, these voltages can be so great that electronic components can be damaged as a result. It can therefore generally not be used for microelectronic circuits.
