Industrial Acoustics Company (abbreviated IAC ) is an American manufacturer of products for noise reduction as well as of facilities and buildings for carrying out acoustic tests. IAC was founded in the USA in 1949 by Martin Hirschhorn, and in 1958 a branch was opened in England. The German branch, IAC GmbH, was opened in 1973.

history

After his training in the United Kingdom, the German engineer Martin Hirschorn traveled to the USA after the Second World War and founded the Industrial Acoustics Company (IAC) in New York in 1949. For almost 50 years, Hirschorn has developed solutions that are still used today and that reduce the noise of everyday technology such as gas turbines , ventilation systems and industrial machinery. In 1998, Hirschhorn sold the company after retiring.

In 2000 HM Akustik in Denmark, a supplier for vibration dampers, was taken over . The insulation of the machinery and buildings can significantly reduce the structure-borne noise level. In 2002 the silencer manufacturer Boet-Stopson, a French company with branches in Spain and Italy, was taken over. The company's influence in these regions has been expanded with manufacturing and licensing agreements in India, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Further expansion followed in 2008 with the acquisition of Colpro, headquartered in Sydney, Australia. In 2009 IAC entered the Chinese market.

In 2012 the IAC was bought by investors from the AEA. GT Exhaust and Maxim Silex were both bought at the end of 2012. As a result, a large share of the exhaust silencer market was taken up worldwide. AEA Investors withdrew from the company in 2016. At the beginning of 2016, IAC Acoustics Inc., USA was taken over by Sound Seal . All other IAC locations worldwide were taken over by Greentec from China.
