Inessive

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The inessive is a grammatical local case that expresses the position in an object . He is one of the secondary local cases in Lithuanian , e.g. B. miške = in the forest. This case is not to be confused with the old Indo-European locative , which appears in Lithuanian only as a relic, e.g. B. namie (at home, locative) as opposed to name (in the house, inessive).

A local case named inessive also occurs in other languages :

  • finn. talo "house"; kylä "village", but talo-ssa "in the house"; kylä-ssä "in the village"
  • estn. maja "house"; küla "village", but maja-s "in the house"; küla-s "in the village"
  • hungarian ház "house"; kert "garden", but ház-ban "in the house"; kert-ben "in the garden"
