The carts, wagons and sledges imported into the Wehrmacht were assigned to certain main groups. The abbreviation is derived from the name. Spelling of the abbreviations “IF”, “IF 8” or “IF8” used today does not correspond to the original specification.

The infantry cart If.8 is a military single-axle cart or trailer . It was used by the soldiers of the Wehrmacht to transport various materials, weapons and supplies . Mainly ammunition and fuel were transported with it. A special wooden bow structure with a tarpaulin made it possible to transport larger equipment and weapons, e.g. B. grenade launchers, machine guns, bazookas and technical devices. The If.8 were pulled by horse or soldier, as is common in infantry units. Several If.8s could be connected to one another via a short drawbar. Different drawbars were used as required. The Protzösen and hooks of If.8 had smaller dimensions than the intended for motorized transport unit swank hook .

The If.8 is a trailer made largely of sheet steel and tubular profiles. The wheels are individually suspended on wheel hubs / steering knuckles and are each cushioned by a spring with a sleeve, but not dampened. The damping is done by friction disks on the steering knuckle.

Executions
- First execution
- This version has a tubular space frame with an internal sheet metal box. The tubular space frame measures in half inches (1/2 ″). It encloses the entire cart.
- Second execution
- The frame and sheet metal box form a unit here. The tubular space frame on the front, rear, left and right sides was omitted. This simplified structure was developed on the basis of specifications and material savings. The technology of the wheel suspension, towing devices and wheel size was carried over from the previous model.
