Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario

The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) is the freedom of information and data protection officer for the Canadian province of Ontario .

The legal bases for the IPC are the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act , the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act . In his work he is independent from the government. The official seat of the IPC is Toronto .

The tasks of the IPC include handling complaints about freedom of information and data protection , monitoring compliance with freedom of information and data protection laws by government organizations and educating the public.

The current IPC is the lawyer Ann Cavoukian . She was appointed IPC in 1997 and confirmed in office for a second term (until 2009).

IPC Ontario is a member of the International Conference of Commissioners for Data Protection and Privacy Protection and is represented there by Ann Cavoukian.
