Information ethics

The information ethics is a philosophical discipline, more specifically, a field of ethics, which deals with the handling of information and information and communication technologies under moral and ethical employs aspects.

The motivation for this ethical consideration lies in the growing importance of information, which is also described as the change to the information society . According to the philosopher and information scientist Rafael Capurro , who also coined this term, the most important functions of information ethics are “asking about the emergence of the structures and power relations that determine information behavior” , “uncovering and criticizing information myths” , “hidden contradictions of the prevailing language norms disclose ” and “ observe the development of information-ethical issues ” .

The Konstanz-based information scientist Rainer Kuhlen deals with similar issues under the heading of information ecology .
