An information booth , information desk or advertising stand is to distribute a temporarily established station that serves information or advertising in the form of brochures and leaflets. This can be material on religious or political as well as social issues; Operators are, for example, lobby groups , political parties , religious associations or non-governmental organizations . In contrast to a demonstration , the aim is not free expression of opinion , but communication with passers-by or potential customers, sponsors and voters. Information booths are therefore usually set up in places that are heavily frequented by pedestrians, such as shopping malls, pedestrian zones, street festivals or at trade fairs, especially as exhibition stands, where other conditions apply than in public spaces. Often the stands simply consist of a table as a shelf and an umbrella or pavilion that serves as weather protection and an eye-catcher. Information stands may not serve a purely commercial purpose, however: the city authorities, which are responsible for approving information stands, are forbidden or only permitted to a limited extent and at cost price. Permission to set up information stands is usually only granted for a limited period. The stands often have to meet certain additional requirements. For example, they may not exceed a certain maximum area, passers-by may not be actively involved in conversations and the information material may only be given out at the stand itself.
