Inge Lehmann Medal
The Inge Lehmann Medal is a geoscientific award given by the American Geophysical Union (AGU).
The award is named after the Danish seismologist Inge Lehmann (1888–1993), the first woman to be awarded the William Bowie Medal . The AGU initiated this award to honor their many contributions to the exploration of the earth's interior and their life's work.
The Inge Lehmann Medal is to be awarded roughly every two years. They are awarded in recognition of special achievements for the understanding of the structures, composition and dynamics of the earth's mantle and core . The medal was first awarded in 1997.
