ZDF holiday program
The ZDF holiday program was a television format for children and young people that was broadcast seasonally in the summer months by ZDF .
Basic concept
The holiday program was broadcast from 1979 to 1989 in the weeks in which most of the German federal states were on summer holidays , Monday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The aim was to loosen up or make the days off a little more for those target group members who stayed at home or who were sick.
There was no permanent team of moderators and there were a number of announcers (including Sabine Noethen ) who guided through the program. However, the main moderators were Anke Engelke and Benny Schnier . In addition, changing mascots accompanied the speakers. This included the Bobtail Wuschel , who accompanied his master Benny on the programs. On the other hand, there was still a doll in the form of a ZD monkey , which underwent a change in later years and was transferred to the clapper- mouth doll Gustav Sommer with clothes and a cap . Both puppets were played and spoken by Siegfried Böhmke .
The programs within each week were conceptually the same. From Monday to Thursday, between interviews, event tips, holiday tips, clips, music performances and reports, cartoons as well as children's and youth series from the ZDF archives were presented. On Thursdays, the so-called “ star guest of the week ” was interviewed and outlooks for the coming week were presented. A feature film was always shown on Fridays.
In reports of advisory nature, people from professional life also repeatedly appeared. For example, Mr. Fuchs from the Federal Criminal Police Office and the flight captain Hermann Terjung from Lufthansa .
Another category of the holiday program was the origami handicraft instructions, which were presented by Zülal Aytüre-Scheele (" Mrs. Scheele ") and which enjoyed great popularity. Traffic education and training were also an important topic. In the “ Tips for the bike ” section there was advice for designing bicycles.
There was a follow-up program for ARD and ZDF with Ferienfieber , which was broadcast from 1994 to 1999.
Theme music
At the beginning of each program there was a title melody with text, which became the trademark of the program. The text read as follows:
Hello! Folks, it's vacation! Everyone is blue
from Flensburg to Oberammergau !
Because it's holidays and with a lot of tam-tam
and information, our holiday program increases again!
Our holiday program!
(The melody based on the Cancan from the Opera Orpheus in the lower world of Jacques Offenbach .)
ORF
The holiday program was produced and broadcast in co-production with the Austrian television broadcaster ORF . Within each week there was therefore also a live connection to the ORF broadcast, which was called the “ holiday calendar ” and had a similar concept. The program was mostly introduced by a cover story based on the Queen hit “ Bicycle Race ”.
