Orzowei is the title of a novel by Alberto Manzi from 1955, a TV series based on it from 1977 and its theme song.
content
It is about a white child abandoned in the South African steppe who grows up in a Swazi village . Because of his skin color, he is not accepted by all tribal members who give him the name Orzowei (foundling). His rival is Mesei, the chief's son. Orzowei has to endure tough initiation rites and is still not accepted by the warriors of his tribe. He flees from his village and finds refuge with a tribe of Bushmen . Here the sage Pao takes care of him.
The TV series
The television series called Orzowei - White Son of the Little King is an Italian-German-Austrian co-production from 1976 on ORF and 1977 on ZDF and consists of 13 episodes. The theme song of the same name sung by Oliver Onions was sung in English on the series, the single was in Italian and a number one hit in Germany in 1977 .
