German version
Episode count
The original Swedish version has 13 episodes and was broadcast in 1969.
In Germany, the series was only shown from October 1971, after four feature films with Inger Nilsson had been shown in the cinema. The series was then continued by dividing the films Pippi in Taka-Tuka-Land and Pippi out of control into four episodes each and appending them to the series episodes.
Feature films
Before the entire series was dubbed, long films for the cinema were first cut from the series and translated in the Federal Republic of Germany. It created Pippi Longstocking and Pippi Goes on Board (both 1969). Since the first of these films already anticipated the end of the series (in which Pippi "disembarked"), the plot of the second cut was simply moved to Pippi's return. Instead, the second film ends with Christmas.
In Sweden, the series was followed by the films Pippi in Taka-Tuka-Land and Pippi out of bounds , which were adopted in Germany and also shown on television.
It was not until 1973 that an independent film version of the series was produced in Sweden with the title Här kommer Pippi Långstrump . In Germany, this was only shown in 1987 under the title Here comes Pippi Longstocking at the Nordic Film Days in Lübeck .
synchronization
While Andrea L'Arronge played the role of Pippi in the films , Inger Nilsson was dubbed in all 21 episodes of the television series by Eva Mattes . Pär Sundberg (Tommy) was also voiced by Eva Mattes in the films, but by Sabine Plessner in the series. Maria Persson (Annika) was dubbed in the films and series by Claudia Quilling. Only in the film Pippi out of control does the usual cast differ: The roles of Tommy and Annika were taken on by David Friedmann and Inez Günther .

Use of the word "spunk"
In episode 9 of the series, Pippi is looking for something she calls a "spunk". Almost everything you encounter is checked for it. A wild animal is suspected, in the candy shop she and her friends look for “spunk” as well as in the metal goods store. Finally, she lets the doctor examine her for "spunk". After a thorough "spunk examination", this certifies that she is in the best of health.
Astrid Lindgren chose the word “Spunk” because it should be a word that doesn't exist. In English there is this very well. It can also have a vulgar meaning there. Therefore, the word "spink" was used instead in the English translation. Pippi Longstocking (Swedish: Pippi Långstrump) first discovered the new word “Spunk” in 1945 in a book by Astrid Lindgren . The word “spunk” is also used outside of Astrid Lindgren's works. "Spunk" is the brand name for a very strong Danish salt licorice .
