action

Kalle, Anders and Eva-Lotta are members of the White Rose . As the White Rose, you fight against the Red Rose (Benka, Jonte and Sixtus). These are actually your best friends, but your worst enemies in the game. Kalle, Anders and Eva-Lotta have hidden the Grand Mummerich, a magical stone. The members of the Red Rose want to find this. The red rose declares war on the white rose.

On the way to the hiding place of the White Rose, Kalle, Anders and Eva-Lotta meet Gren, who watches them and says to himself "Yes, yes, yes, childhood happy and innocent games". Eva-Lotta explains that her father does not like Gren because he would borrow money to others and later ask for a multiple of the money back. A little later Kalle and Eva-Lotta happened to hear a conversation between Gren and another person they did not know. Gren asked them to give him a little more time for the repayment, but Gren refused. The two arrange a meeting point at the old final ruin, where the unknown person wants to hand over the money to Gren. They're also talking about a promissory note. Eva-Lotta looks through the window but doesn't see much of the unknown person.

A little later, Eva-Lotta is on her way to Groß-Mummerich. Near the old final ruin, a man runs past Eva-Lotta, he loses a promissory note, which Eva-Lotta picks up and pockets. Shortly afterwards, Eva finds Gren's body. She is in shock and stays at home for the time being.

Eva-Lotta can no longer remember the person with the promissory note exactly. She explains to the police that she only knows that it all happened at 2:00 p.m., the man wore checkered pants, had black hair and a mustache. He is also about 30-40 years old, about 1.75 meters tall and has a stain on his hand. He had lost a promissory note, but she no longer knew where it had gone and could no longer remember exactly the face of the murderer.

Even at home, the murderer doesn't leave Eva-Lotta alone and sends her poisoned sweets. Although Kalle initially doubts that he can solve a murder case, he decides to help. Kalle can prove to the police that there is arsenic in a bar of chocolate.

Shortly afterwards, Kalle and Anders look for the killer's note. However, you will only find one piece of paper that looks very similar to the promissory note.

Meanwhile Eva-Lotta finds the real IOU in her skirt pocket. While looking for Kalle and Anders, Eva-Lotta meets the killer. She recognizes this by the stain on his hand. Eva-Lotta can tell the rushing Anders and Kalle in their secret predatory language that it is the murderer. Kalle manages to inform the police. However, the killer tries to escape with a motorboat. Kalle stops the boat and the police take the killer into custody.

criticism

Anna Zamolska from KinderundJugendmedien.de thinks that with Kalle Blomquist, Olle Hellbom succeeded in creating a “masterpiece” in his worst case , “which has lost none of its charm and Lindgren's atmosphere to this day”. The city is "a perfect image" of the small city from Astrid Lindgren's descriptions. She also praises the "lively dialogues". Every sentence would burst with joie de vivre. She also praises Kalle's chemical analyzes, for example those of the arsenic sample. This is "not only a magical insight into chemistry for children, but also an equally fascinating adventure for adults."
