Olle Hellbom ( pronunciation : [ ˌʊlːə ˈhɛlːbʊm ], * October 8, 1925 as Niels Olof Hellbom in Stockholm ; † June 5, 1982 ibid) was a Swedish director and screenwriter, a specialist in child-friendly entertainment based on literary models by Astrid Lindgren .

Live and act

Niels Olof 'Olle' Hellbom made contact with the film industry in the first few years after the end of World War II and worked as head of advertising at Nordisk Tonefilm between 1948 and 1950. In 1950 he was able to establish himself as a screenwriter. In this capacity, Olle Hellbom was also involved in the manuscript for Arne Mattsson's naturalistic love film She danced only one summer in 1951 , which was written up as a scandal, especially outside of Sweden , because of an extremely discreetly photographed nude scene with Ulla Jacobsson .

Six years later, Hellbom made his directorial debut with an adventure story about the teenage hobby detective Kalle Blomquist . This film, like almost all of Hellbom's subsequent productions, was based on Astrid Lindgren's models, with whom Hellbom had a close friendship over the years. Astrid Lindgren also wrote the scripts for all of the film adaptations from Hellbom's hand. As a result, Olle Hellbom staged two episodes by the children from Bullerbü , five toddler stories under the collective term Ferien auf Saltkrokan - first performed in 1964 on Swedish television - as well as three experiences of the semi-blond boy Emil (in Germany: Michel) in the early 1970s.

Hellbom had the greatest success of his career immediately before with the four-part series about the strong, free-spirited and independent Pippi Longstocking , shot between 1968 and 1970 . The strong-willed girl with the indomitable braids and funny freckles of Inger Nilsson was played .

Hellbom was also supposed to film the Lindgren book Ronja the Robber's Daughter, but died of stomach cancer around a year and a half before shooting began . The film was completed by Tage Danielsson , who in turn died of skin cancer shortly after filming . Hellbom achieved a total of 21 Lindgren templates that he filmed.

Hellbom's daughter Tove Hellbom (* 1958), who played little Kerstin in the two Bullerbü films in 1960/61, worked as an adult mainly behind the camera: as an outfitter, film architect , costume designer and prop master .
