Holidays on Crows Island ( Swedish original title: Vi på Saltkråkan , literally: We on Saltkrokan) is a TV series from 1964 based on a script by children's book author Astrid Lindgren , who also used the material in 1964 for the novel Holidays on Saltkrokan ; the German translation comes from Thyra Dohrenburg . The series was shot on the two Swedish islands of Norröra and Söderöra .

The single father Melcher comes with his children to the island of Saltkrokan to spend their holidays with them. But once they get there, they first have to prepare the house because it's raining through the roof. The children also get to know Tjorven, who lives with her boatman dog on the island. Stina also comes to the island with her grandfather. Tjorven and Stina especially become friends with Melcher's youngest offspring, Pelle. They experience many adventures together.

The Swedish series Vi på Saltkråkan series was broadcast in Germany as a 13-part series Holidays on Crows Island . This was followed by the films Tjorven, Båtsman och Moses ( The Cursed Prince ) in Sweden ; Tjorven och Skrållan ( The Troll Child ); Tjorven och Mysak ( The Pirates ) and Skrållan, Ruskprick och Knorrhane ( Happy Homecoming ).
For the ZDF in Germany, the films were put together in a 16-part series Ferien auf Saltkrokan . This was broadcast in 1971. The films were cut together in episodes of around 20 to 24 minutes in length. The feature film The Cursed Prince ( Tjorven, Båtsman och Moses ) became one of the series episodes The Cursed Prince and Boatswain should die . This was followed by the series episodes Malin's Wedding and The Troll Child , which were compiled from the film The Troll Child ( Tjorven och Skrållan ). The film The Pirates ( Tjorven och Mysak ) became the episodes of The Pirates and The Clock Thief . In Sweden, Astrid Lindgren first wrote the script for the television series. Only then was the book Holidays on Saltkrokan published. In Germany, the book was published before the series was first broadcast. In many languages, such as English, only the book has been translated, not the series on which the book is based.

Crows Island Holidays was first released on DVD by Universum Film in 2006. The thirteen episodes were released on three separate DVDs.
