Söderöra is an island in the Stockholm archipelago . It is one of the islands that Astrid Lindgren chose as locations for her feature films and series. The best known series is Holidays on Crows Island , which was later rewritten to the novel Holidays on Saltkrokan . You can still easily recognize the surroundings of Söderöra and Norröra as seen in the films . The carpenter's house mentioned in the film is on Norröra . Many winter scenes from holidays on Saltkrokan were recorded on Söderöra. Two of the actors from Ferien auf Saltkrokan were not far from the location. Torsten Lilliecrona (Melcher) and Eva Stiberg (Märta) had their summer houses on Söderöra.

At the present time only about 20 people live in Söderöra. You can reach the island by boat with the ferry company Waxholmsbolaget . This runs daily from Furusund , Östernäs and Bromskär . During the summer there is a daily direct connection from Stockholm .
